Eat breakfast like a Queen
A good high protein, nutritious breakfast is the perfect way to start your day.
It’s unlikely that ONE thing will fix your hormone imbalance, but each change you make will move the needle that little bit further. A big needle mover I see with my clients is when they go from skipping breakfast, to actually eating one!
So, why is breakfast just so good for our hormones? Heres a few:
Stabilises our stress response: Normally in the morning our cortisol levels are at their highest, absence of food will trigger a stress response because our body just thinks famine! Eating breakfast first thing in the morning will help stabilise our HPA axis and therefore our stress response.
Stabilising blood sugar: This is when it is important to have a breakfast that is high in protein. A high protein breakfast will stabilise blood sugar levels and increase insulin sensitivity. This is why women who have PCOS and suffer from insulin resistance, should always be having a high protein breakfast within 40 minutes of waking.
Supports the production of our thyroid and reproductive hormones: This links back to our cortisol. A continuous activation of the HPA Axis means more cortisol is released and cortisol inhibits the production of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and our sex hormones (oestrogen and progesterone).
